Rheebu Nuu is an small indigenous Kanak environmental group. Another group opposing the Goro project is the “indigenous council for natural resources management in Kanaky-New Caledonia”(CAUGERN) consisting of Kanak organizations, the trade union USTKE, and primarily non-Kanak environmental groups.

12/2006 – Mining on New Caledonia is tricky business, in a country working toward independence from French colonial rule. Strikes, demonstrations, and even sabotage, have slowed the progress of the Goro project, and production at fellow miner, SLN.
